Would you like to learn Hindi? Would you like to have the option of being able to speak Hindi with over 340 million people, in at least 2 countries? Hindi is spoken as a first language by over 337 million people (approximately one third of India's population) and learned as a second language by millions more.

Hindi is very closely related to Urdu, which is spoken in Pakistan. However, Hindi and Urdu use different alphabets to represent their sounds.

Perhaps you would like to speak to Hindi immigrants in your own country. Would you like to read and write Hindi as well? Hindi has been ranked the 10th most influential language in the world.

Now that you have an idea of how to read and write Hindi, you need to practice speaking some Hindi words and phrases.

My favourite free resource is Before You Know It Lite - Learn Hindi. It's actually a free language learning program that teaches you vocabulary for 13 or more different topics or lists. I'm really glad I found this one, since it has helped our pronunciation a great deal, and our memory of new vocabulary words. The audio and graphics are very clear, and the program is very easy to use.

The program does not time out, it's yours forever. You could copy it to a disk, and load it on a computer that is not online. Just choose "Hindi", or one of the languages you want, and the link will be sent to you by email, or follow the link online.

I have to admit, I asked for all the languages, since I am language greedy. In fact, if you're not sure which language you want to learn, this is a great free way to test the water, and pick your favourite language, or let your children tell you which language is their favourite. It's also great if you want to learn basic conversation from more than one language.
