Learn Spanish

Why Learn Spanish?

So you'd like to learn Spanish. Good idea. It's considered one of the easier languages to learn. For one reason, you pronounce all the letters you see with consistent sounds (unlike English).

After you're fluent in Spanish, you'll have about 323 million people you can speak with in about 20 countries. Doesn't that open up your travel options? Along with English and German, Spanish is influential as a commercial langauge as well.

Resources to Learn Spanish for Free

My favourite free resource is Before You Know It Lite - Learn Spanish. It's actually a free language learning program that teaches you vocabulary for 13 different topics or lists. I'm really glad I found this one, since it has helped our pronunciation a great deal, and our memory of new vocabulary words. The audio and graphics are very clear, and the program is very easy to use.

The program does not time out, it's yours forever. You could copy it to a disk, and load it on a computer that is not online. Just choose "Spanish", or one of the languages you want, and the link will be sent to you by email.

I have to admit, I asked for all the languages, since I am language greedy. In fact, if you're not sure which language you want to learn, this is a great free way to test the water, and pick your favourite language, or let your children tell you which language is their favourite. It's also great if you want to learn basic conversation from more than one language.

LanguageGuide.org is another excellent site for practicing your Spanish vocabulary, since it includes pictures and audio. You'll also find an introduction to grammar section, along with verb conjugation.

Indo-European Languages is another informative website that gives 85 free Spanish grammar lessons, including verbs, questions, vocabulary and a whole lot more.

Spanish Verb Conjugations

The Spanish Verb Conjugation Trainer is another great free resource. Verbs are organized according to tenses. You can practice conjugating verbs by typing in the answer you think is correct, and then check for the solution, as well as see a full list of conjugations for that verb.

Free Online Spanish Dictionary

I like www.freetranslation.com as a Spanish-English and English-Spanish Dictionary. It doesn't just translate words. You can translate phrases, sentences and paragraphs. It's easy to use and doesn't have other background distractions and popups.
