Newfoundland and Labrador - Birds - Field Trip Ideas
Cape St. Mary's Seabird Ecological Reserve - Cape St. Mary's
We were told we could see birds at
Cape St. Mary's Seabird Ecological Reserve,
but we weren't told the half. There is an incredible amount of birds there. An amazing experience. You're viewing the birds from the top of the cliffs, and when you lie down and look up, you feel like you're flying with them.
I recommend bringing binoculars with you because the different kinds of birds roost at different levels on the cliffs, and your naked eye may not be able to see the lower levels clearly. We highly recommend going to the Cape St. Mary's Seabird Ecological Reserve. But do your homework -You may not find the huge numbers of birds there all year round - check your seasons.
Remember when you're travelling - there is Cape St. Mary's and St. Mary's. We went to the wrong one the first time; however, we also saw a herd of caribou feeding next to the highway, humpback whales feeding inshore and a moose jumped out onto the highway in front of us. What a day!
